Ah, summertime.

There are two times during the year when we have to concede to mother nature. Ice storms during winter, and record heat waves during the summer.

Right now, we're right in the middle of what is already a record breaking heat wave. As a result, we're experiencing a lot of flickering power and rolling outages. The problem with these types of power outages is that they don't have a single source of fault and can simply come and go several times a day.

We have battery backup units in place to handle our down time until the generators kick on. These things work great as long as they have a chance to charge in between outages. Unfortunately with these types of power outages, they don't have time to charge, and as a result we lose power to our equipment.

If we could raise the money, we could buy $250,000+ worth of equipment to solve this, but it just doesn't make sense to solve a problem that ultimately costs us about 1 full day of silence. We would rather invest your donations in to the equipment and facilities that keep the station available the other 364 days of the year.

Rest assured that as soon as we are aware of problems with the station, we are on top of getting it resolved as quick as mother nature will allow us to.

We thank you for your patience, and thank you for listening.

FM 91.5 - 2011 Radiothon!!

This year’s radiothon is almost over. The volunteers will be heading home on Saturday night so we ask that you hurry and make your pledge now! 440.708.0915 or online http://www.wkhr.org/

Please remember that we are 100%, entirely, unquestionably, at your mercy. YOU KEEP US ON THE AIR. Without your support, we cannot keep bringing you the music you love.

As you all know, not a day goes by without rates increasing. We are in the same boat. Luckily we get some breaks for being a non-profit, so this is why we're able to barely get by on your donations alone. The alternative? Commercials… or worse.

Please help keep FM 91.5 commercial free!

Call up now and make your pledge: 440.708.0915

Or you can always donate online at: http://www.wkhr.org/

Thank you for being our listeners!

P.S. If you don’t have the means to donate, please don’t. That’s not who we are. Instead, we would appreciate it if you would tell some of your friends & neighbors (not necessarily one in the same) about us!!

Ice Storm Kills Power to Main Transmitter

WKHR lost electrical power to its main transmitter early on Feb. 21 when an ice storm brought down a tree on the power lines that feed our transmitter site in Newbury. We were forced to broadcast from our backup transmitter from that time until noon on Feb. 23... at which time First Energy Co. restored power to the main transmitter site.

The backup transmitter does not provide coverage to all of our normal listening area so many people who usually listen to WKHR were unable to do so during this period. This problem was due to conditions beyond our control. Nonetheless, we apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your phone calls and emails. We greatly appreciate your continuing support.
