Bye Bill

FM 91-FIVE is heartbroken at the loss of our long-time Chief Engineer William Wiesinger, who recently left us. Bill was one on the main architects of the station, working tirelessly to build one of the most unique stations in the country. He was known to all as Uncle Bill, because of his good nature and vibrant personality.

We would not be FM 91-FIVE if it wasnt for Bill, and his passing has left a void in the WKHR family that will never be filled.

Thank You Bill, for everything! We'll Be Seeing You!

Our New Antenna Is Up And Running!

On Monday, 8/30/10, we installed a new antenna (pictured right). The new antenna will function properly under all weather conditions and should provide more uniform signal coverage than the original antenna.

We would appreciate reports (a message here or call 440 708 0915) about whether reception in your geographical area is better, about the same or worse than before the 30th. Thanks.

New Antenna Progress

The new antenna has been ordered from ERI, a prominent manufacturer of FM broadcast antennas. It will be a 2-bay design custom made to match our frequency of 91.5 MHz. Installation is tentatively scheduled for August. During the installation process, which will take several hours, WKHR will remain on the air broadcasting via auxiliary facilities.

New All-Weather Antenna

A major Engineering project scheduled for this Summer is the installation of a new, custom built, all-weather antenna. Currently, specifications, pricing, etc. are being developed. The desired result is to achieve broadcast coverage that is equal to, or better than, our present coverage regardless of weather conditions. At present, icing conditions can severely degrade our broadcast coverage. The cost of the new antenna will be covered, largely, by the generous donations of listeners during the recent fund drive.

Overnight Update

We're working hard to upgrade our overnight broadcasts. This is a joint effort of the IT and Engineeing Depts. Our IT guru has already made good progress and we're about 90% there. Funds from the recent fund drive are paying for much of this work... so thanks again to all who contributed.

Overnight Streaming

There is also an issue with web-streaming during our "overnight" hours. The audio during this period of time will be affected until we're able to resolve some of the other equipment issues referenced in previous posts.

You may be able to connect, but not hear anything. We are working to resolve this as quickly as possible.

24 Hour Broadcasting

Earlier this week, we lost a piece of hardware that plays a critical role in our ability to broadcast 24/7. We do have backup systems in place, but they are not perfect. If you notice any issues during the late night hours (EST), please bear with us, as we're hoping to have the issues resolved by this coming weekend.

Fund Drive

Thank you to all of the listeners that have supported us over the years. We couldn't do it without your support!
