Ice storms during winter, and record heat waves during the summer.

Right now, we're right in the middle of what is already a record breaking heat wave. As a result, we're experiencing a lot of flickering power and rolling outages. The problem with these types of power outages is that they don't have a single source of fault and can simply come and go several times a day.

We have battery backup units in place to handle our down time until the generators kick on. These things work great as long as they have a chance to charge in between outages. Unfortunately with these types of power outages, they don't have time to charge, and as a result we lose power to our equipment.

If we could raise the money, we could buy $250,000+ worth of equipment to solve this, but it just doesn't make sense to solve a problem that ultimately costs us about 1 full day of silence. We would rather invest your donations in to the equipment and facilities that keep the station available the other 364 days of the year.

Rest assured that as soon as we are aware of problems with the station, we are on top of getting it resolved as quick as mother nature will allow us to.

We thank you for your patience, and thank you for listening.CraigGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05361411251035077090noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2413609520296085760.post-64547740107297662252011-06-29T09:24:00.002-04:002011-06-29T09:27:03.362-04:00WKHR Streaming FixedWe had a problem over the last 48 hours with the online audio stream. We were forced to broadcast from our backup transmitter from that time until noon on Feb. 23... at which time First Energy Co. restored power to the main transmitter site.

The backup transmitter does not provide coverage to all of our normal listening area so many people who usually listen to WKHR were unable to do so during this period. This problem was due to conditions beyond our control. Nonetheless, we apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your phone calls and emails. We greatly appreciate your continuing support.

The WKHR Engineering StaffTyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07238326648987689445noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2413609520296085760.post-54718906033751107602010-11-19T12:41:00.000-05:002010-11-19T12:42:58.888-05:00Bye BillFM 91-FIVE is heartbroken at the loss of our long-time Chief Engineer William Wiesinger, who recently left us. It will be a 2-bay design custom made to match our frequency of 91.5 MHz. Installation is tentatively scheduled for August. During the installation process, which will take several hours, WKHR will remain on the air broadcasting via auxiliary facilities.Tyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07238326648987689445noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2413609520296085760.post-55800239655499209082010-05-13T16:04:00.003-04:002010-05-13T16:15:53.538-04:00New All-Weather AntennaA major Engineering project scheduled for this Summer is the installation of a new, custom built, all-weather antenna. Currently, specifications, pricing, etc. are being developed. The desired result is to achieve broadcast coverage that is equal to, or better than, our present coverage regardless of weather conditions. At present, icing conditions can severely degrade our broadcast coverage. The cost of the new antenna will be covered, largely, by the generous donations of listeners during the recent fund drive.Tyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07238326648987689445noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2413609520296085760.post-45445476445267663982010-04-07T15:51:00.002-04:002010-04-07T16:02:28.526-04:00Overnight UpdateWe're working hard to upgrade our overnight broadcasts.
